Intro
After the success of Reg3 Split, UBIK is proud to announce a new event, the very first Digital Democracy Day. This event will explore innovative solutions for democracy, with a focus on media funding, digital elections, and discussions on digital identity and diplomacy. The event will internalize the concepts of web3 and plurality.
DDD is a one-day event that will precede the BlockSplit conference. It will take place on May 27th 2023 in the Marriott Hotel in Split, Croatia. Co-organisers are UBIK (Croatian Association for Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies), BlockSplit and MUQA (Municipal Quadratic Funding Initiative).
Digital democracy refers to the use of digital technologies in order to engage citizens in democratic processes. It encompasses various tools and platforms that enable citizens to communicate with government officials, express their opinions, participate in decision-making processes, and access information about public policies and issues.
A key component of digital democracy is plurality, which emphasizes the importance of embracing diversity and complexity in democratic societies, leveraging decentralized technology and innovative approaches to foster collaboration, progress, and social cohesion.
That being said, here’s what you can expect from Digital Democracy Day:

Media
The web3 industry has evolved innovative, democratic methods for public goods funding. It leverages blockchain technology to ensure transparency and inclusivity, employing mechanisms like Quadratic Funding to amplify community impact and prioritize underfunded projects.
One of the areas where public goods funding could be drastically improved is funding media. The Croatian Journalists' Association addresses media financing challenges, opposing restrictive laws and advocating for fair media funding. They tackle economic impacts, rising lawsuits against journalists, and changes in media ownership affecting content independence.
